Black Australorp

We are in love with our hens! They are now consistently laying one egg per day per hen.

The daycare kids are always wanting to go outside and check for eggs, so I practically know to the minute when the eggs come. It's been 10:30 lately. ;-)
We built their pen around the lilacs, and it's so gorgeous this time of year. The chickens spend their days weaving around the lilac bushes, kicking up mulch, giving themselves dust baths (when Nate saw it for the first time he thought the chicken was dying), clucking like mad to neighbor dogs, and running to the fence in hope of handouts when humans come around.
