No more frames
My glasses can officially be chucked into the garbage as of today!! They have been bugging me lately, so I saw the eye doctor today and he figured out my problem: I can see better with OUT my glasses! My eyes actually got better rather than worse!
My theory is that my computer job for 4 years made me nearsighted. Now that I've had more opportunity to exercise my eyes on far away subjects, my eyes fixed themselves! Works for me! I always knew that a desk job wasn't for me anyway. :-) I guess it was appropriate at the time, but I'd much rather be chasing kids all day than rotting on my bum. Or rotting out my eyes, for that matter.
On other matters...
We had a busy weekend.
- Celebrated Bradley and Whitney's wedding via a reception at Gary and Patti's. From what I heard, Bradley slaved away the whole time and basically created a 'better than Chipotle' meal. All went well except for when Rhya grabbed Nate's meal and dumped all over themselves and the ground. It didn't keep Nate from wearing that same outfit to our next event, coming right up. Anyway, the seem very well suited so it was fun to support them in their marital efforts. :-) We got home at 10:30 and gave away one more free kitten to a doting city lady.
- Sat! We dropped off Sakari and the remaining kitty at the farm to be animal sat during our weekend adventures. Our next stop was preps, which made me very anxious for the much needed convention privilege coming right up.
We headed straight for Curt and Cindy's in the afternoon. Nate's cousin Doyle got married, so we headed off to their wedding reception that evening. Mark, Marilyn, Terry, Sarah, and James and Jenny's family all hung their hats at Curt and Cindy's that night so we had a wonderful fellowship meeting that morning before heading of to:
Oshkosh! We had a lovely/uplifting like usual visit with Cory. He currently has five contacts with whom he has bible studies with multiple times per week. He is also studying Spanish and piano. After the visit we enjoyed a couple hours of bliss on the road while Rhya napped. The next hour or so were interesting until we stopped at Kwik Trip and got her some fruit. Food never ceases to cheer her up. :-) Our next stop was Perkins in Tomah since Nate was craving French Toast. Rhya was little miss social bug, winning all of the waitresses hearts with her jabbering and cheesy smiles.
We got back home about 10:30pm to complete our long/fulfilling weekend. Good thing Nate works afternoons this week!
It's been one of those 'how can I love my child any more' days. She's been so happy and affectionate today. Maybe the 'not so good' days are meant so we can really appreciate the good days! She's given me countless kisses if she thought I might have bumped myself (probably true). Her giggling and jabbering was constant throughout the house today. She figured out how to slide down the slide all by herself. She used to climb up it and sit there in excitement waiting for me to look out the window and see her mischievousness. Now she figured out how to turn around and slide back down. It makes life easier for me! She thinks that Cory (our newest basement dweller) is the coolest new thing ever, but she's still too shy to go into his room.

Water water everywhere
This has been a summer of WATER!!!
Our hose has been put to the test by filling buckets to stick little legs (and heads) in, sprinkling water over the lawn so wriggling bodies can frolic in the mist, filling willing mouths full of water (I know, gross, but they haven't gotten sick yet) so they can spit it far, creating 'ponds' in the sandbox, showering Sakari with frequent cleaning sessions, and whatever else suits the imagination!
The beach is a favorite destination lately also, especially on the sultry days back in July.
We checked out the Kinnikinnic State Park beach on Mon. It was AWESOME, besides the fact that there is no way down other than a STEEP LONG hill, and obviously no way up other than a STEEP LONG hill. Only foot traffic is allowed! I wondered what I was getting myself into with three wee ones, and a bunch of beach gear, but I psyched them up to the upward task and they thought it was a fun adventure. It helped that I kept saying that DQ sounded like a great idea after such wonderful exercise.
Rhya is a professional copycat these days. She wants to be a big girl and puts forth her greatest effort to eat like us, walk like us, brush her teeth like us, talk like us, etc etc... Getting back to the water subject, the girls like to 'bury' themselves in sand at the beach, so Rhya decided to try it too! She figured that a full body burial was the way to go. She laid flat on her back and started flinging sand all over herself, INCLUDING her head. I'm usually not too restrictive on 'exploratory sensory' areas, but that was a bit much for this mom. Sand in the mouth, eyes, ears, nose, and hair isn't exactly pleasant. Her diapers were even coming out sandy for the next day or so. :-)

Kisses anyone?
Rhya usually likes her independence. If we ask for a hug or kiss we only get it if she's feeling snuggly. Usually she looks at us with a tease like smirk and runs the other way giggling.
Uncle Bill got lucky (above) as Rhya doled a kissy out to him the other night.
I felt quite lucky tonight as we had just done our rounds of saying 'night-night' to everything and everyone (swingset, Sakari, toothbrush, rainstorm, etc...). Rhya laid her head down on my shoulder and then picked it up and gave my cheek a sweet little peck. I didn't even ask for it!
We went to Aldi and Target tonight and Rhya was saying please (peese) almost the entire time. She thought that everything needed to end up in the shopping cart. The only time she wasn't saying please was when I let her walk and she was trying to make friends by catching everyone's eyes with a huge grin and energetic 'HI!'
I caught this smirk tonight on my phone:
Side note: Nate told Kendra that if she can help me keep the house clean for two weeks that we can get a bunny!! :-)

This Past Week
Sat: Work function for Nate.
His work has a 'family' event every summer at Wild Mountain. It is really geared for the kids, as we all received free wrist bands for the water park. By the time we arrived, the clouds were rolling in. Rhya's teeth were chattering away as she tried to play in the toddler area! We ended up in the lazy river until we got evacuated because of the downpour!
The rain eventually stopped and allowed us to have a potluck before heading off to the Taylor's Falls paddle boat ride. Rhya got a bunch of candy (which her Mommy and Daddy have been eating!) and an adorable stuffed bunny. It was refreshing to witness the 'big shots' trying hard to make it fun for the kids. :-) Now I can picture everyone that Nate talks about from work.
Sun: Huge union mtg at Gpa and Gma's (George and Elva)
Picnic lunch at Mom and Dad's camping area with all of the family including grandparents and Heidi.
Supper at our place. We had a lot of people over and a lot of fun! Gary, Amber, Bill, Shanda, Kylie, Karena, Travis, Heidi, Mike and Kristina all joined us. We ate out on the deck and played 'Last Word'.
Mon: Took all three kids to 'The Farm'. We stopped at a sweetcorn stand on the way, which the kids thought was awesome. After lunch we checked out the adorable fat, fluffy, grey kittens and the chicks that aren't so tiny anymore! They wanted me to catch some chicks so they could hold them like last time. The only problem was they always went to the other side of the pen in a flapping frenzy. I did manage to catch a few, though. :-) The kittens were given special treatment in the play baby cradle.
Tues: Gma Mo joined us for the day and overnight! She graciously took me up on my desire to take the kids to the zoo. It was crazy busy, and I was super glad for her help! Rhya was enthralled by EVERYTHING. She kept taking in sharp breaths of air and pointing and jabbering at every single thing. The baby orangutang was the highlight.
Thurs: Pierce County Fair day! I don't know what I would do without the double stroller that all three kids can smash into. It helps in the exercise department also. We loaded everything into the car and headed off to the fair. We started out at the petting zoo which had SO MANY amazingly cute and friendly animals. The bunnies and fainting goats were for sale (ahem, Mom and Dad!). It rekindled my constant desire to move to the country and have every animal imaginable, INCLUDING a pot bellied pig. The thing was just adorable. I am so glad that the kids love animals. We had tons of fun wandering through every single animal building.
The milk and cookie stand is still there (I remember it from our childhood fair days). We sat on a bench and indulged ourselves. All went well except for the constant dribbling down Kenna's shirt and the two times that Rhya fell off the bench. She was so intent on her food that she hardly noticed, besides a quick 'oops!'
We watched a kid show which blasted off my eardrums. Rhya was dancing away to the music. Kendra won a watch from volunteering to hula hoop (all the kids won 'first place in the 'contest'). Wendy had her Norwex booth in that building. I almost went and found some earplugs for her!
The dc kids got to go on one ride, and after many mind changes, they settled a jungle gym contraption. After that we stepped over a random pile of barf and ordered a couple of cherry snowcones.
The day ended with us watching some horses and climbing on some bleachers. The kids did not want to leave, and even thanked me for letting them come to the fair.
Tonight Rhya and I played hide and seek for a LONG time. Every time she found me she would nod her head as fast as it would go and jabber up a storm, trying to tell me to go hide again. I'd tell her to sit down and wait, so she'd plop her butt down and wait for a bout 1 second before hopping back up and running after me. I seriously had to RUN to hide in time. :-)
This munchkin takes after me in many ways, I believe. I remember Mom saying that when Kristina was doing something naughty all she'd have to do is look at her with a disapproving eye and Kristina would almost start crying. I've heard that Kayla and I weren't so much like that....neither is Rhya. Lately when I've told her 'no', she'll look at me and laugh, like I'm supposed to think that it was supposed to be funny. She keeps trying until she realizes that I'm not laughing. Then, if I'm lucky, she'll just pretend like she didn't get in trouble and go do something else. She does NOT like to show any remorse! This shall be interesting. :-)
Her vocabulary is shooting through the roof lately. She's been saying all sorts of words without being prompted. She points to herself and says 'Rahrah'. She points to me and Nate and says our names. So many times I don't even realize that she's saying actual words unless I really tune myself in and realize that, WOW! She's not just jabbering nonsense. There are actual words forming!
